Elysian Space Dust IPA

I love WA beers.  Even more so now that I don't live there.  This one was hoppy and delicious and reminded me of all good things Seattle!

Elysian Dark O The Moon Pumpkin Stout

This is a drink once a year kind of beer. It's a dark stout so the pumpkin competes for the flavor.. It has some nice spice to it. Definitely one to try.I was thrilled to find it in NY since not a lot of pumpkin beers here are dark.

PUB REVIEW: Elysian Brewing

The husband and I (and some friends) did a little beer tour of Capitol Hill in Seattle.  Elysian was our first stop along the way.  We started with being sure to have lunch.  I went with the steak frites.  What's better than fries, steaks, and blue cheese?

Elysian offers a lot of their usual beers, some to-go in growlers and a small cooler of bottles, and lots of delicious food.  The servers are your typical Cap Hill fare of slightly stand-offish and not likely to have a conversation.

Pictured above is the poutine the hubby ate (gravy and fries - nearly as good as steak frites).  The taps rotate frequently so stop in often to see what's good.  Oh and as a bonus, they still had Split Shot on tap and I got to enjoy it on tap!  Woohoo.  Definitely a good beer stop in my books.

Check out Elysian's site for full information on hours and location.

Elysian The Great Pumpkin

We had this on tap at Elysian as part of our little beer tour.  It didn't have a lot of pumpkin spice flavors to it.  It was a bit hoppy though considering Elysian says it's 20 IBUS.  There was a lot of pumpkin flavor.  Definitely a good one for pumpkin beer lovers.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #7 - Torrent Pale Beet Bock

I don't really think people should make beers with beets.  Maybe if you were a giant beet lover then this one would be good, but really just don't even bother otherwise.  Unless you're trying to finish this series, don't even think of buying this one.  It's aaawwwwwwful.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #6 - Wasteland Elderflower Saison

This beer is definitely interesting.  The scent is quite unique.  The first sip was a bit sour, but not enough to be really like a sour beer.  Then it turned floral.  Then it finished in a way that I wondered if it was still good beer.  Elysian is definitely doing some strange stuff with this series.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #8 - Maelstrom

Blood orange deliciousness.  Hoppy, but not overpoweringly so.  Interesting blend.  Good times.  Had it on tap at Elysian.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #5 - Ruin Rosemary Agave IPA

This was actually a pretty standard IPA.  I didn't really pick up any of the rosemary taste at all.  There was a slight taste, which I presume was the agave, but nothing overpowering.  This beer is by far the most normal in the series so far.  It was an ok IPA, but nothing impressive.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #4 - Peste Chocolate Chili Ale

Can see the chili floating in the photo?  It's those red flecks that almost look like yeast in the beer.  This beer was spicy.  I hate spicy beers.  I clearly bought this because it was part of the series, not for any hope I'd like it.  I couldn't taste the chocolate through the chili.  I could only taste the spice and feel the acid in my tummy starting to churn.  That being said, I took a few sips and let the husband finish this one.  Chili beers just aren't for me.

The husband is ok with chili beers, but not a giant fan.  He liked the flavor of the chili in this one compared to the other chili beers we've had.  He agreed that it was spicy and there was a lot of it floating around.  He said as he let it sit and settle it wasn't as spicy, but when he would drink it and stir it up again the flavors came out more.  He thought one (and a half from me) was enough.  Definitely not a sessionable beer.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #3 - Fallout Green Cardamom Pale

I don't like cardamom. Thus, I really don't like this beer.  If my two options were to drink nothing but this beer or be eaten by zombies during the pending apocalypse, I think it would be a hard choice and I may just choose the zombies.  If you liked cardamom, you may like this beer.  I couldn't get past the taste though.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #2 - Rapture Heather Ale

Not as offensive as I thought it would be for the heather flavor.  It had a slight after taste, but not much in the head or the actual sip.  It was ok, but not killer.

Elysian 12 Beers of the Apocalypse #1 - Nibiru Yerba Mate Tripel

Not as Yerba Mate flavor as I expected.  I was hoping to do all 12 of these at once, but it's not going to happen since we can't really move them with us.  I'm hoping to find 8-12 in NY, and just may cry without finishing this series.

Anyway, for the beer, it was not overpowering but it wasn't what I'd decide to have if there was a pending apocalypse  which I presume must involve zombies.

Elysian Prometheus Stole Fire IPA

This beer had an interesting head.  The hops are maybe weaker or the same as the Loser Pale.  The flavors were citrusy and sweet.

Elysian Loser Pale Ale

Who'd think it was a pale ale?  Not me!  This was quite hoppy and delicious.  This beer is definitely NOT a loser.

Elysian Men's Room Red

This was somewhat hoppy.  It's pretty good for a red and easy to drink.  Found a lot locally so something I take for granted and am sure I'll be sad to not have easy access to in the future.

Elysian Dragonstooth Stout

This is one of my go to stouts in WA since it's readily available.  I actually picked this one up at the local gas station.  It pours a dark head and has a nice underlying chocolate and burnt flavor to it.  This one will be a beer I miss quite a bit when we move!

This beer was much better fresh, but it was still a pretty tasty collaboration beer.

Elysian Split Shot

I drank this beer in celebration of my birthday.  I was generous and shared with the husband and a friend.  I instantly regretted being generous since I wanted all of the deliciousness contained in this bottle for myself. The coffee flavor was perfect.  I could not have dreamed of a better espresso milk stout. Sadly, I did not grab a pic of the beer poured, just the bottle the next morning.  But I do love that label - it's so pretty!

My guess is this is going to be pretty limited since Elysian brewed it specifically for Seattle Beer Week.

Elysian Night Owl

This beer has a good pumpkin flavor. The aroma was not not as strong, but the flavor was quite good.  I'd definitely suggest getting one of these seasonal beers if you see one!

The Bros at Beer Advocate think this is exceptional.
Since it's out of season, why don't you just visit Elysian's site?
